Post Format used by Hippotizer
The most common format before feeding the Hippo is either:
(mac) QuickTime Animation, Photo.JPEG,or MPG2
(PC) AVI,MPEG2 or QuickTime as in Mac.

If you have Beacon DigiGobos® disc´s for a example, use the Photo-JPEG files for best result as Hippo will handle the content and
encode it itself to the best result with default setting. If you have MPG2 files already they will be handled as they are ( if you not choose "force re.encode" )
and will keep the bitrate.

The Media Manager has a built in transcoder for many formats, however if you want to have direct control over the encoding you can externally encode to mpeg2 in which case the video file will not be re-encoded (unless the "force re-encode mpeg2 option is ticked".
In such a case you should configure your media creation software to create a mpeg2 clip with the following parameters:

MPEG2 Elementary stream
File extension .m2v
Standard GOP (15 frames)
Bitrate :

8,000 - 10,000Kbps (PAL)
10,000 - 12,000Kbps (720p)
16,000 - 22,000Kbps (1080)

Video must be Progressive not interlaced

Normally for Hippo HD and 1080p content we would recommend a bitrate between 16000Kbps and 24000Kbps depending on the type of content.
Constant bitrate only, no variable bitrate.Hippo can accept I-_frame_ only MPEG2, however this requires that the content be encoded at 2 - 3 times the normal bitrate to achieve the same quality, and is really not needed unless you are likely to be playing clips backwards a lot.

Hippotizer has a special way of handling MPEG2 files which allows it to play them backwards, seek instantly and have _frame_ accurate editing without the need for I-_frame_ encoding. The important consideration here is how many clips will need to be played simultaneously on one machine at any one time. Usually we encode 1080p clips at 16000Kbps and they look fine, and at this bitrate you can usually play 4 to 5 clips at once. If you were to encode the clips at 24000Kbps then you would probably only be able to play 2, and if they were I-_frame_ then only 1.
