Once again I’m after hardware advice from the Hippo Gurus. I’m trying to standardise my Hippo kit so that I can get it cased up conveniently, and also therefore hire it out here in the UK to make some money when I'm not using it. My thoughts are to have two cases: Case 1: Hippocritter Critter PSU and power cable Hippocritter video input dongle Abridged user guide Case 2: 22” Monitor (LG W2242T) Monitor power cable 1.8m DVI cable DVI to VGA adapter (for output) Miniature illuminating keyboard (USB) Microsoft 5 button mouse (USB) Mouse mat Netgear 5-port gigabit switch Netgear PSU 50cm Cat6 UTP patch cable 1m Cat6 UTP patch cable 2m Cat6 UTP patch cable USB stick with Zookeeper, Screen-thief, LX console personalities and full Hippo manual on it Audio output device(??) The logic being that some people will just want to hire the unit (case 1 only) to add an output to their existing Hippo setup, while others will want the control gear as well. I know case 2 will be getting a little on the heavy side, but I think I’d rather manage it than have a third box… My questions are: Does this seem a good idea to you guys? How do companies (in your experience) kit out Hippos for hire? Any suggestions on a simple audio output device? I’m contemplating one of these:http://www.behringer.co.uk/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx or something similar. Is there anything else I’m missing that I should add to case 2? Any other words of wisdom? Thanks as always, Gareth. |

It all sounds great for this, the only thing I miss is to have a DVI Detective ( the small great little lifesaver for chep bucks) This avoid a lot of problem for different screens settings. The thing to have the Critter units as small as possible is maybe difficult since the needs of screens, keyboard,mouse,cables,CD/DVD drive, audio interface....yes the list can go long here! But, your ideas of 2 different cases sounds good to me! Maybe a small dell screen to case 1 and DVI Detectives to both of them ( http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4714 ) Wish you luck! |

hello sirs, there is a pic somewhere...hmm, cant find it now ofcourse... If we are talking Critters here, you can fit your Critter with keyboard, mouse, DVI-Detectives and a 19-21" monitor in one box (22" goes if you dont care about minor scratches), I use a plastic case made by StormCase, very practical, easy to ship, waterproof, shockproof and so on. Damn...need to find that picture...have nothing in stock right now and cant remember the type number of the case... Peppe has seen that pic... Johan West edit: heh, found the pic but too big for this site, here is a link to StormCase and the model in question: http://www.stormcase.com/StormCaseSizes/StormiM2875.htm |
