Tripleheads and newer 5xxxx and 6xxxx cards info
For you that uses 2 outputs, dual mode and connects Tripleheads to go on them ( or something similar) will know that these cards have one dual-DVI and the other is single DVI, so the facts is that you will be able to use only one output for this resolution you need. Why this is changed, only the manufactures will know and they seems to heads to HDMI more and more..
" In December 2010, it was announced that several computer vendors and display makers including Intel, AMD, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, and LG would stop using LVDS from 2013 and legacy DVI and VGA connectors from 2015, replacing them with DisplayPort and HDMI"
HDMI with 1.4 is what I know capable to deliver up to 4096 x 2160 with highspeed cable, but this is maybe for the 3D televisions that requiers 2 feeds at the same time . So things will change and hopefully it will be solutions to use HDMI ( even this is holding the ugly HDCP protection crap that Microsoft invented).
So the 4870 cards that hold right now, seems to be the last " normal operation" cards right now for this setting we often use in the stage and event world.
Display port is maybe the solution coming, but at this moment is holds 3840 × 2160 × 30 bpp @ 60 Hz
