When using the inbuilt audio outputs you can get a problem with "crack & pops" when a SDI or VGA capure card is active.
When they are not active ( or even not installed in the machine) you don´t have to worry about this.

Since V3.0.11c ( current release) is handling audio tracks separatly ( on a separate layer with no control over volume / pan) and V3.0.12Beta have
a setting in import settings that grabs the audio from a movietrack direct and connect it to the clip, but still seems to have the same issue, we recommend to use a third-party audio interface ( we use MOTU 828mkII ) that solves any problems with this.

A FireWire port has to be used with the FW version (inside you have a FW connection and to have this port to the back of the unit you will have to get a extender plate connected and installed, the USB version takes a USB port just.

An update:
I have found that any version of Motu drivers over 32fw (released early 2008 ) is making this noise.
Even with that one you need to disable all the layers VGA capture, when anyone is running the issue appear.
This is for the firewire version ( have not tested USB version)

This driver is not on their website anymore, I had luck to had a copy backed up.
The latest they have is not making the sound clean, lot of "crackle & pop´s"

So if you need this, I have it, just give me a email.

A solution regarding MOTU drivers:

As default the new drivers have a setting for 1024 samples per buffer, this is making the "cracks & Pops", if you go to Motu audio control and change that value to 512 ( or 256 )then the sound is sounding as is should! Thanks to GH for this deep digging in this issue!!!

So you can use the new drivers with this in mind. Tested on USB 828mkII and FireWire 828
